edCount Project Awarded a $1.6M Grant by U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education announced today that it will award a $1.6 million Grant for Enhanced Assessment Instruments to the Washington State Office of Public Instruction for a project developed through a partnership between Washington State and edCount, LLC. The project, Evaluating the Validity of English Language Proficiency Assessments (EVEA), will bring together a consortium of five states to build a validity argument and design a series of studies to evaluate alignment between English language proficiency (ELP) standards and assessments.

edCount Hosts Interactive Web Conference on Fair Assessments for English Language Learners

Today, edCount, LLC hosted its first interactive web conference for education stakeholders. The webinar, entitled “Making Tests Fair for English Language Learners,” featured two presenters from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Using a recently developed set of guidelines from ETS, they discussed key issues in the assessment of ELLs, with a special focus on appropriate methodology for determining an assessment’s validity and fairness.
